VVCMCC Wednesday Ride Group
Note: The last update to this page was in July 2010
Some information may now be out of date.
A group of VVCMCC members has for many months been riding on Wednesdays.
These are officially sanctioned Club Rides, so 'V Plate' bikes are eligible & welcome to join the runs.
However most riders usually bring their modern bike.
The rides start at 10 am from the Fresh Roast Coffee House, Kemble Court, Mitchell, next door to Canberra Motorcycle Centre, unless otherwise notified. They are typically limited to the Canberra region covering between 100 - 150kms of sealed secondary roads at legal speeds. They are morning to early afternoon rides and involve coffee shop stops, which can extend into lunch dependent upon the length of the ride. Friendship & camaraderie is the order of the day & the regular riders have become firm friends.
Destinations have included Gunning, Bungendore or Moonrock Café Tidbinbilla, Gold Creek but have also included Boorowa, Crookwell & Goulburn during the warm months.
The rides are not pre-planned more than a day or so in advance so weather conditions, rider preference and machine attendance can be accommodated. Regular riders are usually advised by phone by Len Skipper the ride coordinator.
Whilst there is a regular core of riders on Wednesdays, any Club member who is free on a Wednesday & fancies a ride is welcome to join us
If you would like to come on any of these relaxing rides ring Len Skipper (0400 650 404) & we will expect you or if you prefer just arrive at the start.

A social ride and coffee somewhere local
Present:
John Broad – Yamaha SR500
Stan Perry – Yamaha FJ1200
Len Skipper – Triumph Bonneville T100
Floyd Primmer – BMW R80RT
Rally point: 10.00am from the Shell Fuel Station at EPIC
We departed making our way onto the Barton Highway turning right onto the Nanima Road loop which connects into the Murrumbateman Road and enters the Barton Highway just before the Murrumbateman Village. We then drove through onto Yass, stopping for coffee and hamburgers etc. One interesting sight that caught my eye as you enter Yass on the right hand side is a Motel named Thunderbird, perhaps the original owner was an old Triumph man eh?
Our numbers were down today, Denis Murphy was flying to Melbourne for the Motorcar show, Ernie Seary was bleeding the brakes on his BMW and Graham Knox was organising finances for his new BMW F800ST (which he plan to ride at next Wednesday outing). Peter Byatt had family business to attend too.
All returned home via the Barton Highway after another relaxing and social outing albeit down on numbers. 140 km covered today. Home in time to polish the bike?

25-26 February 2009
This ride was an overnight trip to visit Ray and Judy Crocker in Nowra.
Ray being a long time member of the Goulbourn Classic Motorcycle Club
Present:
John Broad Kawasaki W650
Stan Perry – Yamaha FJ1200
Len Skipper – Triumph Bonneville T100
Rally point: 9.00am from the Shell Fuel Station at EPIC.
We departed making our way on the Federal Highway heading north, the weather conditions were dry and overcast, pleasant for a nice days ride. Our first coffee stop was at the Golden Arches café at Sutton Forest. John’s wife had provided some home cooked biscuits, so a cup of coffee was all that was needed. After a short break we proceeded to Moss Vale travelling through the main street then onto Kangaroo Valley via route 79.
It was a pleasant ride descending through the twisting roads and sharp bends with magnificent views into the valleys below. We arrived at Nowra around mid-day and made our way to Ray and Judy’s place where tea and sandwiches was provided for lunch. A relaxed few hours were spent chatting and inspecting Ray’s bike collection. Afterwards we went to the River Haven Motel, adjacent to the Nowra Bridge. Judy had organised our overnight accommodation at a special rate. Just as we arrived at the Motel, I had to go onto reserve, as we had covered 215km that day. Later that evening we meet up with Ray and Judy again and had dinner at the local Bowling Club. A pleasant day was had by all.
The following morning we left the Motel around 8am and made our way to the nearest petrol station, where we just happened to meet the local motorcycle wrecker, his shop was located in Flemington Road just a short distance from the petrol station, Stan Perry was in seventh heaven, checking out various Honda parts for a future restoration project. Then we set off for Batemans Bay to find a suitable café for breakfast. It wasn’t until we stopped at Milton, that my companions severely ribbed me for passing two cafés on the way without stopping, they were starving!!!
The Pacific Highway was busy with many bikers making their way to Phillip Island for the weekend racing. We decided not to go into the Bay after all, but continued onto Braidwood where a coffee and refuelling stop was in order and to checkout the famous bakery shop in the main street. Topped-up with coffee and cakes, we continued onto Bungendore and then Canberra covering in total 495km over the two-day period.
All bikes performed well with no incidents, the weather was warm and a good time was had by all.

Wednesday 18 Feb 2009 Ride.
Stan Perry organised a 200klm ride to Wakefield Park via Tarago - a location selected for reasons apparent later in the day. Attendees were John Broad SR 500, Stan Perry on his mighty Yamaha FJ1200, Denis Murphy CB1300, Steve Davey Norton Commando, Stew Ross SR500 and Floyd Primmer R80RT. Apologies were received from Len Skipper who reported in sick.
The group assembled at Bungendore at the usual café at 10 and departed at 10.30 after coffee with a group of Usual Suspects Wednesday Riders also going our way but who continued on to Gunning. The ride was brisk and superb along the picturesque road with no more than a mere mist of heavenly moisture for a minute or two with all arriving at Wakefield Park together.
After watching some private cars burning up the Wakefield Park circuit we retired to the on-site diner for coffee and hamburgers or chips, pies etc. While there, a charming young lady named Michelle arrived with a bike part for Stan. It was areplacement left side cover for his Honda 750 as he had lost one along the highway out of Canberra a couple of months ago and had advertised for a replacement. To his amazement it was the reconstructed, dayglo blue painted side cover he had lost, apparently picked up by road cleaners and dumped at the Goulburn tip. Michelle had found itnear an old abandoned motorbike and responded to his ad. Stan was delighted. Michelle who was known to Stan being another Japanese Classic MC Club member, shared a coffee with us staying until it was time for us to go.
The ride back was lead by Steve Davey who still managed to set a brisk pace in spite of discovering sideways play in his bike's rear swing arm, giving an interesting rear wheel steering action on bends. The group split up at Bungendore with the northsiders returning via Mac's Reef Road and the southsiders via Oaks Estate.

Wednesday 11 Feb 2009 Ride.
The ride commenced at the layby at the junction of Cotter and Uriarra Roads and proceeded via Uriarra Crossing and the Cotter to the MoonRock Café at the Tidbinbilla Tracking Station. There were only bikies of the male gender on this day yet no complaint was raised by café management. The ride back to Canberra was directly via the Cotter for most.
The riders and bikes were John Broad SR500, Len Skipper Triumph 500 twin, Stewart Ross SR 500 Graham Knox Thruxton, Wayne Smith SR 400, Stan Perry Yamaha 1200, Denis Murphy SR 500, Floyd Primmer BMW R80RT. A few of the regulars such as Ernie and Peter B were sadly missed for their usually dry, witty or technically expert contribution to the conversation.
