Berry Boys Ride
12-14 March 2011
by Mick Gentleman
This ride was designed by Dick Holland and included a weekend down to Greenwell Point meeting up with the Berry Boys at Nerriga Pub. We met at the Red Rooster in Queanbeyan and proceeded to Nerriga via Bungendore and Tarago. This included only a few kilometres on the gravel with me following in the Red Ute as backup. Our first challenge began between Tarago and the Nerriga turn off were Dick had told us to follow the blue signs to 'Nowra" a few of us thought we might just visit Lake Bathurst along the way. (See photos)
The Nerriga pub is full of history and we met the Berry boys there for lunch with a great tales of motocycling. Now it was off toward Nowra and Greenwell Point pub for a cleanser or two, we only stopped once to fuel the Indians and point me in the right direction. Greenwell point pub has a great atmosphere and while the rooms were a little cosy we all enjoyed the camaraderie. Robbie Harris found his bunk with timber slats wasn't quite used to the dimensions of an Indian rider and it promptly collapsed as he went to get up for a toilet break. While this created some noise in the room, it wasn't near as loud as the noises coming from the other room.
The Berry boys took us to Sussex Inlet the next day for a great lunch at the bowling club, then back to Greenwell Point for fish and chips for dinner. The return trip to canberra via Nerriga and Tarago was very wet with the back of the ute filing with mud from the gravel road and the trucks.
Congratulations to Dick for organising such a great weekend and thanks to Phil for the brake restoration.
