Googong Dam Run & BBQ

report by Lisa Mill
It was a rather cool and brisk start to the day, however the sun was shining and there were plenty of people at the Services Club eagerly waiting for the ride to Googong. I opted for the ever faithful RD350 while Craig took Jake on the back of the comfy Vulcan. I was glad I had upgraded my winter jacket as the wind certainly had the potential to bite. Anyway thoughts of hot soup, good food and tea and coffee prepared by Dean and Cheryl waiting for us at the Dam kept us warm. With the usual perusal of machines, it wasn't long before Mick briefed us for the journey - straight up the Monaro and turn left at old Cooma Road, at the big green shed on the highway. As we were leaving the Club it was noted that a new member from SA had joined us for the run - without gloves! Poor Dave, I don't know how he did it. Arriving at the Dam, I don't think that there would have been many who did not enjoy the ride with many stating "that was fun"! Even Dave was smiling. My RD was on song and loved the country road with the gentle twisty bits and I must admit arriving with a bit of a grin. Craig and Jake arrived soon after, opting for a more leisurely pace on the cruiser. Dean and Cheryl had outdone themselves, again. Fabulous soup, scrumptious snags and kebabs followed by delicious deserts, we were certainly spoilt. If there is a competition between these two and Geoff Duddy, then we are the winners. There was plenty of time to chat and tell stories and it seemed no one was in a hurry to leave. I really enjoy this run, the road (once off the highway) isn't busy and there are plenty of spots to overtake safely. The scenery is lovely and it was a great day to share with friends. Thanks to Dean and Cheryl who put Master Chef to shame and to Neil Trama for back up duties. Cheers,
