The sun was shining and it was looking like a great day for this ride down to Araluen for lunch. Although rain had been threatening all weekend, it looked like we'd miss it anyway, at least until we had got home, so no wet weather gear necessary for me then..... Arrival at the Services Club there were a few avid members looking keen and raring to go, Rob Harris on his Indian, Col Markland on a GT 750 Ducati, and several modern bikes, about 20 or so members gathered round whilst Mick Gentleman gave out instructions....We set off for an easy ride to Braidwood, stopping to regather at the park at the top of the town, before heading off to the twistier sections of the road down to the hotel...With some gravel washouts on sharp corners, it was fairly gingerly descent down between the trees and surprisingly were met on a corner about halfway down by Allan & Christine Boyd who had left a bit earlier in the day.....Col Markland had a bit of trouble with a dicky ignition switch on his 'duck' after some fettling, joined us about 15 mins later along with Phil Donges with an empty backup trailer....The pub lunches were soon devoured, along with a light beer or two, and we headed off to beat the rain. We didn't. Soon after Braidwood it poured for about 5 mins , then we dried out for around 10 mins then it poured again coming into bungers... We all made it home safely, although some a little damper than others... Cheers Simon Whittaker.
