Honeysuckle Creek Run & BBQ
Sunday, 27 September 2009

by Lisa Mill

The weather forecast was a tad ominous however Craig and I were itching for a ride after a full day of cleaning the house and shed yesterday in time for visitors and a shed "show 'n' tell". We figured we'd take the trusty RD Yamaha's as they are proven wet weather bikes and we hadn't done the Honeysuckle Creek run before.

Arriving at the club there were only another 2 bikes and Waine with the backup trailer however before long a few more die-hards turned up. We were approached by a small group from a van that had pulled up. They were from the UK and were given Lorraine's name as an ACT contact as a fellow Velocette rider. Noela, Basil, Stuart and Ann followed us out to Honeysuckle Creek and enjoyed the BBQ with us.

Following the riders brief from Simon we headed off down Canberra Ave, onto Cotter Rd then out to Tharwa where we regrouped. After a short break to get the circulation going again in our fingers we headed out of Tharwa, along Naas Rd, right onto Apollo Rd and onto the BBQ area at Honeysuckle Creek where Geoff had prepared our feast and had the urn on for tea/coffee/soup to stave off the cold. Bill Lewis went straight to Honeysuckle Creek to assist Geoff with the BBQ and apparently the grounds were packed with school kids from Sydney packing up after their camping trip.

It was possibly my imagination but I could have sworn that if the little dots falling down on us were a bit bigger and the air was a bit colder we could have called it snow. Yep, we got a little damp though it didn't pelt down with rain on the ride out there and while at the Creek the weather held off and the sun shone down.

After a hearty lunch, folk headed off back home in dribs and drabs. Craig and I went home over the Tharwa Bridge onto the Monaro Hwy and home. I am sure that I was riding at about a 45 degree angle as the winds picked up which made the trip entertaining.

Much thanks to Geoff for chefing the BBQ, excellent as always. Also thanks to Waine for his Backup duties which fortunately were not required on the way out, not sure if he had business on the way home.

Cheers, Lisa Mill
