Binalong Museum Run

It's been a while since our last run with the Club as Craig and I missed the Gluhwein run being in sunny Wollongong for the Illawarra Tour. We thought of you all while we were riding in bright sunny 26 degrees...but I digress.

Mick briefed us on the route to Binalong avoiding Kings Ave Bridge due to the marathon by getting onto Parkes Way via Commonwealth Ave Bridge, then onto William Hovell Drive, then onto the Barton Highway and taking the Bowning turnoff to Binalong.

29 entries in the roll call for the start of the run, however there were a few absences by the time we got to Binalong. Matthew Spackman's GPS sent him to Boorowa (not Bookham)... ? Stan Perry pulled over at Murrumbateman after I had been following him for a while watching him smack his left twist grip a few times. I am sure I saw Peter Jessop on his Ariel at the start, but somehow it magically converted to a BMW by the time we got to Binalong - cool trick.

We arrived at the Museum to find the gates all closed and unable to get in, and we had just decided to head off for lunch when owner turned up to let us in. The photos speak for themselves as to the variety of antiquities there; I am still amazed at how far technology has come in such a short time. Gone are the days of the mega drive chains on our cars, thank goodness.

Before long we were all back at the bikes and saddling up for the trip home. Mick was having a bit of an issue with his Triumph and I understand that the battery just got him home before conking out. Craig and I chose to go home via Murrumbateman Rd to Sutton which was lovely.

Overall it was a very pleasant ride and now looking forward to the Dalton run.

Note from Mick: While stopping at Yass for lunch on the return run, Geoff Duddy, Steve Keough and Mick Gentleman pulled into the Commercial Hotel for the counter meal (very nice roads). While waiting for the lunch we were approached by an old workmate of Geoff's from some 20 years ago.

Apparently Geoff was an Air Services Engineer and held in great esteem. Steve and Mick were entertained for quite a while with stories of their endeavours in PNG.

Father Graham was very helpful when we tried to start the Bonneville again, providing great advice and some fuel.
