Well it's started as a lovely sunny day for our annual "Around the Lake Ride". Sunny until we all got to Black Mountain Peninsular that is, then some of those July clouds rolled in and the temperature dropped with an icy breeze coming off the lake. But there to cheer us up with a warm cuppa was Geoff Duddy and the BBQ trailer, and what a feast Geoff had prepared! It was a relaxing start to the ride as we gathered around to enjoy the company and await those who had met at the Services Club, thanks to Lisa for rounding them up. While waiting we had the chance to all give our expert advice as to why Col's lovely Square Four was hunting on idle? Rightly so Col didn't listen to any of us and just let Peter Dunster do a few tweaks and it started to smooth out. Steve Keough had also done some preparation with the mounting of his camera on the front of the Beemer to get the action shots, nice work Steve! The riders brief was next and this run provided the club with two adventures, one is the long ride around the edge of the lake through Yarralumla to the back of the Hyatt, then continuing past the front of OPH, down Wentworth Ave to Fyshwick and then onto Dairy Rd, Parkes way and back to the Peninsular. The shorter run for the older bikes was to peel off at Commonwealth Ave head across the bridge and then return to the BBQ spot. On application though, a large group of riders decided to do the "avoid the lake" ride, heading straight to Adelaide Ave around Parliament House and onto Canberra Ave. This third event provided the opportunity to stop at every traffic light on the route, I was following Bruno on the T110c with my T100c. Bruno's was the magnet for the red lights so that gave us the chance to have a little "challenge" if you know what I mean, at each set of lights. I must say it did sound nice hearing two crackling Trumpy exhausts echoing through the leafy suburbs. Back to the Peninsular now for lunch and again a feast, BBQ snags and some cool drinks along with some great stories, including Dick Stubbs recounting his time at Honeysuckle Creek during the moon landing! Thanks to Geoff Duddy for a wonderful A La Carte effort, enjoy your break up north Geoff, and to John Sever for the back up trailer. The next event is Bob Courtney's English Pub Run on August 2nd and we will meet at the Services Club as usual at 10am. Now don't forget this is a "Motorcycle ride" and a map of the ride will be issued at the start. Kind regards
