Lisa and I just love this event, and from the roll call we certainly are not alone, so despite the tongue in cheek naming of the event I would much rather refer to it as "Wonderfully British". Thirty two members bikes appear on the roll call, and I think there were a few extras parked with us at our shady spot on the lawns of old parliament house. We started off from Manuka for a leisurely ride out past the airport towards Queanbeyan, then North on Sutton Road to the Federal Highway, and then back to Kings Avenue Bridge via Majura Road. It was the first run for Lisa's recently acquired Tiger 100 (many thanks to my father Alex) and a good excuse to give my Norton ES2 a run in the country. Lisa and I left the club ahead of the rest, with the intention of riding at a very leisurely pace. Most of the faster bikes passed by us with cordial waves before the Federal Highway, but surprisingly we still ended up leading a small contingent across Kings Avenue Bridge. A big thanks to Bob Courtney for taking over the lead just as my mental Canberra map started to fade, ensuring that we arrived efficiently and well grouped. Our bikes drew quite a crowd, partly due to the beautiful chorus of exhaust notes that announced our arrival, but more importantly I think because our club members are so friendly and approachable, happy to chat, explain, listen and swap stories with anyone who shows an interest. Bacon and Egg rolls lured us quickly through the rows of beautiful British cars, and the cars lured us back at a more leisurely pace. So much rare and loved machinery to be seen, and so many photos to take. It's an event that really inspires me. A huge steam powered bus chuffed it's way around the block from time to time, providing possibly the largest road going joyride I've ever seen. At one stage I watched with admiration as the driver gently reversed the behemoth to its parking spot, sitting on the driver's window sill so he could lean way out to see past the wide passenger cabin. It really is a great day out, and I hope to see you all there next year. Cheers, Craig Mill
