Sunday morning arrived, wet cold and windy. A huge amount of rain had fallen during the night and it looked like continuing throughout the day.
Our two RD350 Yamahas had been serviced the day before and were waiting patiently in the garage, warm and dry. Lisa and I stood in our bike gear watching the rain come down. "Bummer... looks like a good day to work in the shed" I muttered.
10:00am rolled around and the rain stopped, the clouds parted slightly and the internet radar map showed a small band of clear air making its way up through the ACT. Good enough.
We jumped on the bikes and headed for Manuka, hoping to still arrive ten minutes before the 10:30am departure. To our surprise we arrived to an empty carpark. We waited till after 10:30 to see if others would arrive, and then we headed off in a convoy of two (and generating the equivalent smokescreen of a line of big rigs).
Some rain fell upon us as we headed into Belconnen but not enough to
concern the bikes nor us hardened riders, and we were glad to see a row of classics and smiling faces waiting at our usual spot on the netball court
behind the university.
Seven bikes in all; six listed in the roll-call below plus a very nice late model postie bike that belonged to one of the few members of the public to venture out that day.
We were the only motorcycles on display, I assume due to the wintery weather, but there were plenty of motor vehicles of all descriptions and ages, and therefore plenty of admirers regardless of the lack of public attendees.
Ann and Peter Toet took along their 1935 Packard Limo, adding to the wide array of classic vehicles on display.
Rain fell gently from time to time as we walked around admiring the many vehicles on display, and it fell some more as we scoffed down one of the popular bacon & egg sangas. I snapped a few pics when I could, but when the sky cleared again we quickly said our goodbyes and headed for home.
