Having volunteered to tow the back-up trailer for this event, I left home about 8.30am, picked up the trailer from Kambah and then on to Mawson to pick up our life member, Gerry Hampson who really enjoys being around the old bikes. We arrived at Manuka to find about 4 bikes already there, so the attendance book was immediately started. About 10.30am Steve Davey called a briefing, after which the group moved off, except for Stan Perry and Denis Murphy. Stan had an oil leak problem and decided to retire the Honda 4 and headed for home. Denis' Yamaha failed to proceed also, even after some pushing around the carpark, so we loaded it on the trailer for some attention later. Close to Captains Flat the Yamaha was unloaded and pushed down a big hill and 'bingo' away it went with a smiling Denis on board - of course. On arrival at 'The Flat', Peter and Ann Toet had the BBQ lunch cooked and many had already consumed snags/onions/various breads and drinks, however there was enough for us later-comers. The rider of a BMW 100/7 took a ride into the back streets of 'The Flat" and purchased a plastic fuel tank for his Yamaha dirt bike (it was either Lou Baljak or Gary Rankin). Mick and Karen Newton from Bungendore must have joined us along the way as I did not see them at Manuka; Mick on his trusty Enfield and Karen enjoying her recently acquired Hyosung 250. This was Kath Richards first Club run with her newly earned 'P' plates and riding very confidently. Congratulations Kath. Missing the run was Chris Hillbrick-Boyd who was attending the Stay Upright course to obtain her 'L' plates (and she was successful). Look out for her on the next short run on her "new" Postie Honda. Gradually the riders drifted off on the return journey followed by the Toets in their Nissan pulling the BBQ trailer and myself with the back-up trailer at the rear. No takers for a ride on the trailer this time. An enjoyable day was had by all and in perfect weather conditions. - Allan Boyd Roll Call |
