Robbo's Ride Day and Harley's first Ride

1 December 2007

Robbo's ride day, the once a year club ride on a Saturday that isn't a group ride as members make there own way to Robbo's showroom in Fyshwick to display their bikes and to ride some of the latest model Harleys.

I had planned to ride my 1918 Harley to Marques in the Park last weekend but on that Sunday morning it had a flat tire that I wasn't able to quickly fix, so this became ‘Harley's first ride’. Russell Beckett rode in from Captains Flat to ride out with me and together with Geoff Duddy we rode to Fyshwick without any problems, but stopping a couple of times to fine tune the Schebler carby.

Bill Lewis was there when we arrived and about to go on his first demo ride, Craig and Lisa arrived soon after. As I write this I don't have the list of ‘attendees’ but Steve Keough and Col Hill were also there. Some of us rode a couple of the demo bikes on offer, I enjoyed riding a Road King Classic, greatly improved since my last ride on a big harley some years ago. It was a very comfortable bike with good brakes, cruise control etc, it had the lot. I also rode a Vrod, easily the quickest bike there. Russell Beckett made the most of the day and road no less than 10 (TEN) demo bikes, big Harleys, Buells, Sportsters and Vrods, and will definitely go again next year. While talking to Col Macauley who owns Robbo's I asked him if he still had any old bikes and he responded by wheeling out a very original ’73 Sportster he had imported that still looked new.

To wind up, those members that participated seemed to enjoy the day (probably lucky with the weather) and I would recommend it to other members. I was very happy with the performance of my old Harley and it will be seen again on future rides.
