Marques in the Park is one of the ACT Council runs which we really like to attend to show some support for the ACT Council organisation. We are very fortunate that we have own Bill Lewis as our delegate. Bill is the Vice- President of the Council (which currently lacks a President, just in case you are available) and Bill has both old bikes and cars. He is our eyes and ears to any changes pending that may affect our hobby.

This year's Marques in the Park was again held at John Knight Memorial Park and proved a great success. We had about the same number of bikes as last year, but there were few new bikes, such as Dean Davidson's 1958 Velocette Valiant, Peter Holdcroft's 1950 Mk 1 Square Four Ariel, and Alan Munday's 1971 BSA Lightning. There were lots of great bikes on the day. Geoff Nicholas had the 1905 Peugeot on display to give the punters an idea of how much things have changed in 100 years.

I am always amazed at the advances in technology and you only had to turn off the hearing aid and listen to the 500Watt sound system in the little Mazda next door to appreciate it. The golden rule for the amount of money to spend on a sound system appears to be that you calculate the mass of the car in kgs, double it, and add 20 percent for distortion (extortion?). If you can still hear the engine at 8,000 RPM on full boost, then you apparently may have been ripped off for you sound system.

The VVC put on a good display, we had lots of interest from passers by and everyone had a good day. The Coffee makers were about 50 metres away so it was very handy.

See all on the next run,

Best regards Peter Toet.
